Systems Administrator

Location: 3228 Moodie Drive, Ottawa, ON

KOTT Inc.’s goal is to get our customers what they need, when they need it, and having the right information available at the right time is at the heart of our success. We are looking for a full-time Systems Administrator, based in our Ottawa office, to support our infrastructure and our team across four locations.

You will report to the IT Manager and be primarily responsible for providing 1st and 2nd level support for our end users, and maintaining our core network services, devices, and communications systems. Your role is key to helping KOTT deliver ‘on time, in full’.

Working with a wide variety of users in a fast-paced environment, you will use your communications, organizational and multitasking skills every single day. Your strong customer orientation is critical to keeping your ‘internal customers’ happy, and your thoroughness and attention to detail will positively impact KOTT’s operational efficiency.

Please note this is an office-based position. You may be required to work remotely either full or part-time throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

Your day-to-day

  • • Provide timely response to user queries, incidents, outages and alerts, and provide support for laptops/desktops, phones, and applications
  • • Support, configure, maintain and upgrade network and end-user devices, including but not limited to servers, network switches, laptops, desktops, phones (Android and iOS)
  • • Monitor network availability and performance
  • • Review alerts and notifications from monitoring systems and diagnose issues
  • • Ensure the integrity and availability of data through monitoring and troubleshooting backup systems, hardware and software
  • • Optimize the network to meet performance, capacity and security requirements
  • • Deploy and maintain security patches and tools on internal and external network devices including Symantec End-Point Security, Message Labs, Cisco Umbrella, Windows Firewall and Windows patches
  • • Develop and maintain documentation to ensure configuration, changes, working procedures and technologies are captured and communicated
  • • Identify and solve problems that arise with computer networks and systems
  • • Provide support for industry-specific software (Mitek, Planswift, Epicor Bistrack)
  • • Assist with testing, assessment, diagnosis and resolution of network service outages, and support incidents
  • • Perform other duties as required

What you need to succeed:

Experience & Education

  • • You have at least 3 years of experience working as a Systems Administrator
  • • You have a thorough knowledge of administering Microsoft Windows Server and Active Directory, and are well versed in using Microsoft Administrative tools
  • • You have a thorough understanding of the TCP/IP (IPv4) networking protocol including LDAP, DNS, DHCP and RADIUS
  • • Experience with command-line tools and scripting using PowerShell is a requirement
  • • You have a good understanding of IT Security concepts and tools including but not limited to SSL, VPNs, Email protection (anti-spam, anti-phishing) systems, endpoint protection (SEP, Umbrella, Windows Firewall, etc.)
  • • You have a good understanding of IT concepts and technologies including cloud computing, virtualization, server platforms (hardware and software) and security
  • • You have a very good understanding and knowledge of the Microsoft 365 platform
  • • Experience with construction industry specific software (Mitek, Planswift, Epicor Bistrack) is considered a significant asset
  • • Experience with MS SQL is considered an asset
  • • Experience administering *nix systems such as Linux, Unix, Mac OS, using a graphical user interface, scripting and command line tools is considered an asset
  • • High school education or equivalent

  • • Ability to work autonomously, multi-task and manage multiple escalated support requests under tight timelines
  • • Great verbal and written communications skills
  • • Strong documentation skills with detail and accuracy
  • • Ability to travel to the other KOTT sites as required
  • • You are able and willing to respond to incidents outside working hours, as the need arises
  • • You possess the ability to work with/on computers continuously for 8 hours per day
  • • You have the ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds of weight
  • • G Class Driver’s license is mandatory
  • • Fluency in English is required; fluency in French is an asset
